Simon has been fishing since the early 80’s when his father Rod Hartop and stepdad Mark Fisher used to take him match and coarse fishing across the wilds of Warwickshire as a lad. This was where he learned how to use a float on the murky canals to catch Gudgeon, Daddy Ruffe and transparent Roach & Perch. Once he knew how to cast well enough, he was allowed to wander the diminutive chub streams of the midlands, sometimes cycling miles to get to the bank.

During Simon’s early teenage years he fished for Coventry boys, learning as much as he could about competition fishing. It wasn’t long before he fell in love with carp fishing, catching his first 20lb’er 30yrs ago. Sometime later Simon spread his wings and flew to a stones throw away from the Colne Valley and a catapult shot from the Thames. After graduating in Art & Music at Brunel University, he toured with various bands and stayed on the fringes of the capital where Simon still lives to this day, spending a lot of his time fishing the capital’s mighty river and the wild lakes of the Colne Valley.
